Marsupiomonadales Marin, 2012: 780.
Type of name: Marsupiomonadaceae B.Marin 2012
Original publication: Marin, B. (2012). Nested in the Chlorellales or independent class? Phylogeny and classification of the Pedinophyceae (Viridiplantae) revealed by molecular phylogenetic analyses of complete nuclear and plastid-encoded rRNA operons. Protist 163: 778-805, 6 figs, 4 tables.
Planktonic algae from brackish and seawater habitats. Cells small, measuring about 3 µm, covered by a theca except for the cell apex, or without theca. Flagellum very long, more than twice the cell length, about 7-12 µm. Immature basal body without rhizoplast, very short, about 80-150 nm long. Basal bodies only slightly displaced anticlockwise. Position 12 (unpaired) of Helix [H122] in the chloroplast-encoded 16S rRNA is A instead of U.
