Description:
Marine phaeophytes with oligostichous, irregularly branched thalli and an isomorphic life cycle. Growth by a prominent apical cell without transverse division of subapical cells. Each cell with numerous discoid chloroplasts without pyrenoids. Branches and reproductive structures arise laterally from thallus cells. Three kinds of reproductive structures, that is, unilocular sporangia, plurilocular sporangia, and vegetative propagules without a central apical cell.
