Nomenclatural notes:

As "Charophyta" is a typified name based on the genus name Chara, Art. 10.7 applies: "Art. 10.7. The principle of typification does not apply to names of taxa above the rank of family, except for names that are automatically typified by being based on generic names (see Art. 16), the type of which is the same as that of the generic name." and Art. 11.10 state. "The principle of priority does not apply above the rank of family (but see Rec. 16A)" and Rec. 16A.1. "In choosing among typified names for a taxon above the rank of family, authors should generally follow the principle of priority." Accordingly, while Charophyta Migula included only taxa currently included in the Charophyceae, it is reasonable to credit the name Charophyta to Migula, despite the addition of four more classes in recent years.
