Taxonomic notes:

According to Ichinomiya et al. (2011:147, 148), the Parmales should be taxonomically separated from the Chrysophyceae and their molecular phylogenetic analyses suggest that this order is closely related to Bolidophyceae. They consider that there is a close evolutionary relationship between Parmales, Bolidophyceae, and diatoms. This order has also been included in the Synurophyceae.
