Description: Flat, flabellately to subdichotomously branched to many orders in one plane, sometimes proliferous from margin. Small discoid holdfast; essentially no stipe. Medulla of large isodiametric cells with chains of small cells among them. Cortex relatively thin, of progressively smaller isodiametric cells toward cuticle. Dioecious, where known. Carpogonial branch 3-celled, borne singly together with 2-5 elongate or lobed subsidiary cells on same supporting cell. Connecting filaments from carpogonial fusion cell contacting remote, ovoid, auxiliary cells with 2-9 ovoid subsidiary cells, a few with 1 or 2 additional cells. Gonimoblast a dense mass of carposporangia and intermixed filaments. Cystocarp protruding to some extent. Pericarp and carpostome present. Spermatangia superficial. Tetrasporophyte isomorphic. Tetrasporangia cruciate, scattered in cortex.
