Bicuspidella Pascher, 1932

Lectotype species: Bicuspidella incus Pascher

Description: Solitary cells attached in central portion of cell to substratum with basal pad or inconspicuous to prominent stipe to ca 5 &m. Cells irregularly fusiform to ovoid or triangular, 18-26 &m long and 12-21 &m high, with straight to curved, rounded to pointed cell wall process at either end of cell. Cell walls smooth. Cells uninucleate with two contractile vacuoles; chloroplast single and parietal, covering most of outer surface; pyrenoids one or two; stigma in young cells. Asexual reproduction by biflagellate zoospores; 2-4 per sporangium. Zoospores with cup shaped chloroplast, stigma and 1-2 anterior contractile vacuoles. Sexual reproduction unknown. Bicuspidella epiphytic on various filamentous algae in freshwater; reported only from Czechoslovakia and Ukraine, but probably more widely distributed.
