Description: Erect, solitary thallus to 30 cm in height, produced from a single conical grooved holdfast from which a series of repeatedly bifurcate, terete woody branches arise. Branching monopodial, triradiate (often not obviously so). Primary branches to 6 mm in diameter, arising direct from the holdfast without a specialised condensed main axis, with each order of branches successively thinner. Receptacles to more than 10 cm in length, produced as slight thickening of ultimate branchlets. Conceptacles bisexual with 4 eggs per oogonium. Antheridial filaments relatively long and unbranched bearing antheridia in terminal clusters.
