Description: Plant colorless, minute (up to 2 mm), multiaxial, with uninucleate cells, parasitic on Bostrychia radicans. Tetrasporangia superficial, 19-27 by 12-15 microns, cruciately or tetrahedrally divided. Carpogonial branch 4-celled, the supporting cell serving as auxiliary cell. Carpogonium fusing directly with auxiliary cell. Gonimoblast filaments sympodially branched, producing terminal carposporangia 29-35 by 12-15 microns. Mature carposporophyte having large central fusion cell. Spermatangia produced by successive divisions of cortical cells, arranged in clusters. Division of germinating spore producing small lenticular cell and elongate germ tube containing cytoplasm of spore. Conjunctor cell cut off from germ tube and fusing with tier cell of host. Following fusion, parasite developing into small cushion with multiple pit connections to host.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
