Description: Thalli unicellular, usually in clusters, rarely solitary. Young cells oval, becoming elongate, pyriform to irregularly bottle-shaped, often oriented with wider end on substratum. Adult cells 20-30 x 9-10 &m. Cell walls smooth, and relatively thin. Cells uninucleate; chloroplast parietal, cup shaped; pyrenoid single, with starch envelope. Asexual reproduction by autospores, 2-4-8-16 spores per sporangium, or by biflagellate, naked zoospores, mostly 16 per sporangium. Sexual reproduction unknown. Botryokoryne known only from Austrian Alps from soil. Genus similar to Apodochloris, differing based on naked versus walled (in Apodochloris) zoospores. Taxonomic position of Botryokoryne unclear, the genus previously assigned to Chaetophoraceae and Chlorochytriaceae. Thalli unicellular, usually in clusters, rarely solitary. Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
