Description: Cells wall-less, rounded, united by mucilage in spherical or ellipsoid or dendroid colonies. No flagella or rhizopodia in vegetative cells. Chloroplasts 1-2 (-4) with or without stigma. Contractile vacuole often present. Uniflagellate zoospores observed in two species. In one species, some cells have 2 basal bodies, but no flagella. Stomatocysts and sexual reproduction unknown.
