Original publication and holotype designation: Kraft, G.T. & Saunders, G.W. (2014). Crebradomus and Dissimularia, new genera in the family Chondrymeniaceae (Gigartinales, Rhodophyta) from the central, southern and western Pacific Ocean. Phycologia 53(2): 146-166.

Description: Thalli bright to deep burgundy red; basally and marginally attached by discoid holdfasts; fronds prostrate, repent or erect on basalt or calcareous rock, frequently overlying hydrozoans, to 160 mm in lateral spread. Blades usually imbricate, not or only infrequently secondarily connected by haptera, often consisting of single or linear series of basally constricted opuntioid units 8-15 mm across in Lord Howe type material, the segments 15-25 mm across in Hawaiian populations; fronds 20-160 mm in lateral spread, lobes 8-15 mm broad, 80-200 µm thick. Reproductive structures in dactyloid marginal pods 450-800 µm wide, up to 2.5 mm long, the surfaces smooth or bearing varying numbers of branched, uniseriate filaments 100-150 lm in length by 6-8 µm in diameter, these arising singly or as densely aggregated extensions of extensive patches of surface cortical cells.
