Description: Thalli erect or decumbent from a rhizoidal holdfast, up to 8 cm long, flabellate, entire or lacerate, 0.2-1.2 cm across at the apices, or multifid with narrow (up to 1.5 mm broad) branches from the base. Growth initiated by a row of many apical cells. Thallus becoming 2 cells thick immediately below the apical cells and remaining 2 cells thick throughout. Cells with numerous discoid chloroplasts. Hairs present or absent, in concentric zones or scattered tufts. Sporangia in concentric or scattered indusiate sori on the upper thallus surface, ovoid to pryiform, 150-250 mm in diameter, with or without a basal stalk cell, dividing to form 4 spores. Antheridial sori (known only from male plants of D. multifidum) on terminal segments, 400-600 mm long by 200-300 mm across. Oogonia unknown.
