Description: Thallus crustose, cartilaginous, non-calcified, affixed to the substratum over the entire lower surface or by fleshy peg-like haptera, completely lacking rhizoids; crusts composed of largecelled branched uniaxial primary filaments that give rise to radiating cortical cell filaments that fill in the crust, the upper or dorsal cortical layers often becoming synchronously produced. Presumed tetrasporangia terminal on dorsal cortical filaments, clustered in undifferentiated sori; gametangia unknown.
