Description: Colorless cells that would be placed in the genus Astasia except for possession of an eyespot and flagellar swelling (presumed photoreceptor), indicating derivation from the green genus Euglena by loss of chloroplasts. Freshwater or parasitic in freshwater flatworms, copepods and annelids; widespread.
