Description: Vegetative cells small (9-21 microns), thinly armored with a plate formula of Po,cp, X, 4', 2a, 6", 6c, PC, 5+s, 5"', Op, and 2"". Biflagellated stages, including gametes, and triflagellae planozygote stages. Cingulum slightly subequatorial, slightly displaced. Nucleus spherical, typical dinokaryon present in the hypotheca. Temporary benthic or resting cyst stages present. Nutrition is heterotrophic, by myzocytosis by means of a tubular peduncle.
