Description: Thallus endophytic or epiphytic, discoid to subspherical, attached by isolated rhizoids or cables of rhizoids arising from the lower surface. Structure pseudoparenchymatous, lacking secondary pit connections; upper cells often bearing elongate, basally pit-connected hairs. Reproduction by large sporangia, these undivided but basally stalked. Spermatangia borne on the surface mother cells. Carpogonium sessile, arising directly from a subsurface vegetative cell, with an elongate trichogyne.
