Description: Plants heterotrichous, consisting of sparingly divided uniseriate filaments, branches arise laterally from close to centre of cell, attached by short haptera. Cells uninucleate, barrel-shaped, each with 1 or 2 parietal chloroplasts and without pyrenoids. Asexual reproduction by ellipsoidal zoosporangia and globular akinetes. Sporangia terminal on lateral branches, zoospores dehiscing through a pore and akinetes by a median fracturing of wall. Flagellar number of zoospores unknown. Sexual reproduction unknown. Pleurangium from temporary water in limestone area of China. The illustrations of aplanosporangia accompanying the type description are similar to oogonia depicted for other genera. Pleurangium considered somewhat intermediate between the order Chaetophorales and the Trentepohliales.
