Abstract:
The occurrence of Cyanophora paradoxa Korshikov (Glaucocystophyta) in a small temporary pond in Sicily is documented. The monadoid Cyanophora paradoxa is seldom found in freshwater water bodies of the world and represents a major model organism in the evolution studies. The finding represents the first record of this remarkable planktic species in Italy. The limnological characterizationof the pond, as well as the composition of the phytoplankton assemblage at the time of finding, are illustrated.
