Taxonomic status: currently recognized as a distinct genus.

Most recent taxonomic treatment adopted: Wynne, M.J. (2014 '2013'). The red algal families Delesseriaceae and Sarcomeniaceae. pp. [1]-326, 118 figs. Königstein: Koeltz Scientific Books.

Nomenclatural notes
According to Athanasiadis (2016: 1071) the correct citation is Apoglossum (J.Agardh) J.Agardh [it is also on ING card] as Agardh (1898: 190) raised the gubgenus Apoglossum "'Epicrisin scribens jam Sub-Genus proprium quibusdam Speciebus Delesseriae...", Agardh is referring to Delesseria subgenus Apoglossum J.Agardh (1876: 491). Six species were originally included of which Kylin (124: 23) selected A. ruscifolium. - (25 Jan 2017) - M.D. Guiry
