Description: Plants are orbicular, encrusting, anchored by unicellular rhizoids, and completely calcified. The interiors of young thalli are Peyssonnelia-like, but towards the margins the blades become differentiated into a superior and inferior perithallus. Cells of the hypothallial layer in such cases produce a single coxal cell only, in contrast to the paired arrangement of coxal cells in Polystrata. Reproductive structures are unknown.
