Description: Thallus prostrate and erect, branching irregular to alternately subdistichous. Axes with or without rhizoidal cortication, each cell with a whorl of 3-4 pseudodi- or pseudotri-chotomously branched determinate branchlets with mucronate tip. Indeterminate branches occasionally short, densely branched and filamentous (= villose). Procarps subterminal, 4-celled carpogonial branch and sterile cell on one (supporting cell) of 3 pericentral cells, auxiliary cell, cut off from supporting cell, leading to carposporophyte with terminal cells forming carposporangia. Fusion cell present, and surrounding involucral branches. Spermatangial heads on cells of villose branches. Tetrasporangia on modified branchlets near apices of short branches, tetrahedrally divided.
