Description: Thallus an adelphoparasite forming white nodules on Chondria; colorless minute cushions on host branch form short, erect monopodial, polysiphonous branches. Host penetrated by rhizoidal cells with pit connections to host cells. Erect branches with 5-7(8) pericentral cells which sometimes dividing transversely; each segment with an exogenously produced polysiphonous branch or trichoblast produced in a 2/5 right spiral. Procarp with two groups of sterile cells retaining their identity in post-fertilization stages; cystocarps globose, broadly ostiolate and often with a trichoblast. Spermatangia on pericentral cells developing on branched trichoblasts, sometimes also developing on axes; spermatangial branches oval or circular in section but may become flattened with coalescence of several male branches; without sterile marginal cells. Tetrasporangia, 1 on each pericentral cell, 5-6 per segment, in stichidioid branchlets.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
