Original publication and holotype designation: Calderon, E. & Schnetter, R. (1991). Pseudoderbesia, nuevo género de algas marinas (Bryopsidaceae, Chlorohyta). Caldasia 16: 285-294.

Description: Thallus consists of a repent axis or stolon which gives rise to rhizoids, and to branched or arborescent, erect portions constructed of tapering, non constricted siphons, to at least 4.3 mm. high. Plastids with pyrenoid. Reproduction is by fragmentation, and by biflagellated zooids discharged through numerous papillae of zooidangia, which represent transformed erect branches. Zooidangia are separated from remainder of thallus by septa. The limited data indicate anisogamy.
