Description: Parasitic thallus, on Lophurella, forming erect bushy growth of polysiphonous filaments, up to 1 mm high, from a pseudoparenchymatous pulvinate extrusion of parasite tissue from host. Upright filaments with 4 pericentral cells, uncorticated or with slight cortication; unbranched but with alternately placed non-emergent trichoblasts on each segment. Reproductive structures borne in positions of non-emergent trichoblasts forming distichous fertile branchlets. Male capitula spheroid to ovoid, borne on short monosiphonous stalk. Cystocarps on second segment of polysiphonous trichoblast base; cystocarps spheroid and with a short stalk. Tetrasporangial stichidia subtended by polysiphonous stalks with 4 pericentrals, flattened, comprised of congenitally fused lateral branchlets, each with 3 pericentral cells; fertile segments each bear two sporangia and fertile rows on either side of the fertile branch axis are similar.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
