Description: Adelphoparasite on Dipterosiphonia parva; internal filamentous system developing pit connections with host forming emergent clusters of filaments from infection site and other nearby regions; erect axes free, without basal pulvinate tissue and with non-emergent trichoblasts (branch initials) or reproductive trichoblasts on every segment, arranged in a right-hand spiral. Four pericentral cells, dividing transversely but not forming straight tiers of cells; axial cell attached to proximal product of pericentral divisions; pericentral derivatives later breaking apart from original connections with one another, becoming randomly distributed and forming a cortical tissue ca. 1 cell thick. Cortical cells filled with refractive granules. Only gametophytic reproductive organs known; procarps on caliciform outgrowths from main axis; a compact cluster of mature cystocarps forms that obscures the original bearing branches. Spermatangia produced on cortical cells derived from pericentral cells near distal ends of axes, covering the axis, and forming long cylindrical male branches without sterile tips.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
