Description: Medium-sized cell (50 - 70 µm), somewhat flattened, constricted in the middle and thus divided in 2 parts, one of which has a short conical process. It multiplies by division. Only known from alcohol-preserved specimens. May be a synonym of Ptychodiscus Stein (1883). Diplocystis Cleve is a later homonym of Diplocystis Trevisan, Diplocystis Berkley and Curtis (1869) and Diplocystis Agardh (1896). Marine plankton, tropical to temperate waters of the southern Atlantic and Indian Ocean.
