Description: Frustules rectangular; poles occasionally inflated. Valves linear to linear-lanceolate and tapering to capitate and occasionally faintly heteropolar ends. Striae irregularly spaced between transapical ribs; axial area thin. Polar pore fields confined to the mantle and consisting of several porelli arranged in regular rows, extending only slightly onto the valve face. A single rimoportula is located within the polar rib. Spines absent. Girdle bands simple open bands; valvocopula ligulate, copulae narrow and bear a single row of poroids. Freshwater, epilithic; collected from Calgary, Isle of Mull and Loch Assynut, Sutherland, Scotland. Emend Morales, Bahls & Cody (2005: 129, 130).
