Original publication and holotype designation: Dangeard, P.[J.L.] (1940). Sur la pretendue reproduction des Vaucheria par des acinetes et des spores amiboides et sur la nouveau genre Asterosiphon. Comptes Rendus Hebdomadaires des Séances de l'Académie des Sciences, Série D 210: 719-721.
Taxonomic status: currently recognized as a distinct genus.
Gender: This genus name is currently treated as masculine.
Description: Dichotomously branched siphons growing radially to form small green rosettes to 2 mm diam. on soil surface, with rhizoidal siphon beneath surface. Cysts form inside siphons, germinate into new thalli or divide into small amoeboid or walled spores.
