Jaoniella Skvortsov, 1961

Holotype species: Jaoniella planctonica Skvortsov

Original publication and holotype designation: Skvortsov, B.V. (1961). Harbin Chrysophyta, China Boreali-Orientalis. Bulletin of the Herbarium of North-Eastern Forestry Academy (Harbin) 3: 1-70.

Description: Cells on branched stalks, arranged in spherical colonies. Each cell has 2 equal(?) flagella, one parietal chloroplast, and a stigma shown not to be associated with the plastid. Details of reproduction unknown. Stomatocysts spherical, with a short collar. The description of this genus is inadequate to fix its taxonomic position, but it might be closely related to (or identical with) Tessellaria. Described from freshwater plankton in China; probably rare. J. Kristiansen
