Pseudosyncrypta Kisselev, 1931

Holotype species: Pseudosyncrypta volvox Kisselev

Original publication and holotype designation: Kisselev, I.A. (1931). Zur Morphologie einiger neuer und seltener Vertreter des pflanzlichen Mikroplanktons. Archiv für Protistenkunde 73: 235-250.

Description: Cells arranged in spherical colonies, united by their tails in the colony center; cell has two almost equal flagella, 8 disciform chloroplasts, no stigma, two contractile vacuoles are located posteriorly. Colony is surrounded by a mucilage in which small rod-like bodies are embedded. It is not known whether these are silica scales or bacteria. Reproduction and stomatocysts unknown. Observed once from a pond near St. Petersburg. This imperfectly known genus is here referred to the Synurophyceae because of the two almost equal flagella, the lack of a stigma, and the posterior position of the contractile vacuoles, together with the possible presence of scales.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
