Description: Thallus prostrate. Structure multiaxial, with a filamentous medulla and a cortex of narrow anticlinal widely separated pseudodichotomous filaments, the intervening inner-cortical spaces filled with longitudinally running rhizoids and rhizines; secondary pit connections present in the inner cortex. Gametophytes monoecious, dioecious or possibly protandrous. Spermatangia forming in broad subterminal and submarginal sori. Carpogonial branches straight, 3- or 4-celled, borne singly on undifferentiated inner-cortical supporting cells. Auxiliary cells and early gonimoblast stages unknown. Mature cystocarps thick-walled, ostiolate, hollow; carposporophytes lining inner surfaces of the cystocarp cavity; gonimoblast filaments growing centripetally, producing solitary terminal carposporangia. Tetrasporophytes unknown.
