Description: Irregular branched, prostrate filament enclosed in thin mucilaginous sheath. Cells with single parietal chloroplast with pyrenoid; rotation of chloroplast observed. Some cells with sheathed hairs. Asexual reproduction by biflagellate zoospores produced singly or in pairs; eyespots lacking. Sexual reproduction unknown. Chaetothece reported from Austria and New Zealand attached to aquatic plants in freshwater. Critical studies on reproduction and ultrastructure not carried out; assignment to Charophyceae provisional.Irregular branched, prostrate filament enclosed in thin mucilaginous sheath.
