Cyclidiopsis Korshikov, 1917

Holotype species: Cyclidiopsis acus Korshikov

Currently accepted name for the type species: Lepocinclis cyclidiopsis M.S.Bennett & Triemer

Original publication and holotype designation: Korshikov, A.A. (1917). Contribution á l'étude des algues de la Russie. Trudy Borodinskoi biologicheskoi Stantsii Petrogradskago Obshchestva Estestvoispytatelei 4: 219-267.

Description: Colorless, free-swimming, osmotrophic, elongated, tapering, unflattened, rigid cells, 150-200 _ 7-10 _m, with slight bending but no euglenoid movement; eyespot and flagellar swelling present (therefore thought to derive from green species by loss of chloroplasts). Type similar in many ways to Euglena acus except for apical canal opening; Pringsheim (1963) discusses whether this is close relationship or parallel evolution. Bourrelly (1970) includes Cyclidiopsis within the genus Astasia but Huber-Pestalozzi (1955), Leedale (1967) and Starmach (1983) keep it separate. Freshwater, cosmopolitan. Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
