Taxonomic status: This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Antithamnionella.
Comments: Name used equivocally by Nägeli (1862) both for a subgenus of Pterothamnion [to include P. flocccosum (O. F. Mueller) Nägeli] and as a genus for the combination Haplocladium floccosum (O. F. Mueller) Nägeli based upon Callithamnion floccosum [= Antithamnion floccosum (O. F. Mueller) Kleen] (vide Moe and Silva 1980).
