Lobosphaeropsis Reisigl, 1969

Holotype species: Lobosphaeropsis pyrenoidosa Reisigl

Original publication and holotype designation: Reisigl, H. (1969). Bodenalgen - Studien II. Österreichische Botanische Zeitschrift 116: 492-506.

Description: Cells solitary, spherical, 4.5-6-(8) µm in diameter, with thin cell wall. Chloroplast single, parietal, bowl- to bell-shaped, the margins deeply incised, with one pyrenoid. Asexual reproduction by formation of 2-4 tetrahedrally arranged autospores. Sexual reproduction and flagellated stages unknown. Lobosphaeropsis, edaphic, apparently known only from the type locale in Austria. Komárek & Fott (1983) suggest that this alga may be assignable to Chlorolunula P. Dangeard; if so, the latter generic name has priority. Similar to Lobosphaera Reisigl which, however, lacks a pyrenoid. Cells solitary, spherical, 4.5-6-(8) µm in diameter, with thin cell wall. Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
