Pseudogoniochloris L.Krienitz, E.Hegewald, O.L.Reymond & T.Peschke, 1993

Holotype species: Pseudogoniochloris tripus (Pascher) Krienitz, E.Hegewald, Reymond & Peschke

Original publication and holotype designation: Krienitz, L., Hegewald, E., Reymond, O.L. & Peschke, T. (1993). Variability of LM, TEM and SEM characteristics of Pseudogoniochloris tripus gen. et comb. nov. (Xanthophyceae). Archiv für Hydrobiologie Supplement 97: 67-82, 11 figs.

Description: Unicellular, solitary, free-living, non-motile organisms 21-36 (-45) &m. Cells flattened dorsiventrally and triangular in frontal view with an arm at each angle, more or less developed with tips rounded or terminated with a corona of spines. Cell wall colorless to light or dark brown, smooth or roughened. Ultrastructurally (SEM) surface appears granular with major variation in the size and density of granules which are arranged more or less regularly. Chloroplasts parietal and lamellate, generally six with two per arm; sometimes divided and four per arm or even a dozen irregularly dispersed in the central portion and arms of the cell. Nucleus in center of cell and surrounded by more or less colorless lipid droplets. Method of asexual reproduction unknown. Pseudogoniochloris planktonic in ponds, small lakes and slow moving rivers; cosmopolitan. Genus recently distinguished from Goniochloris by Krienitz and others based on the honeycomb structure of the cell walls.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
