Description: Solitary naked cells to abut 10 _m diameter without defined cell walls and with variable amoeboid shape. Cell movement by two anterior, unequal flagella; one very short, the other twice as long as the cell. Cells uninucleate with two to six parietal, discoid chloroplasts and one contractile vacuole at the flagellar base. Stigma and pyrenoid absent. Storage products oil and glycogen. Sexual reproduction unknown. Asexual reproduction probably by longitudinal division of cells. Ellipsoid cysts rich in oil and with thick walls reported. Chloramoeba free-living in freshwater. Genus rarely reported and only from Europe.
