Euglenamorpha Wenrich, 1924
Taxonomic status: currently recognized as a distinct genus.
Description: Green, cigar-shaped, 50 _ 10 _m, non-rigid cells, with active euglenoid movement, 3 identical flagella, all emergent, all with a flagellar swelling opposite the single small eyespot, a unique situation suggesting proliferation of the Euglena-type locomotory flagellum. Endozoic, occurring in the digestive tract of Rana tadpoles, recorded only once in 58% of tadpoles examined in Pennsylvania, USA. Phototrophic and not phagotrophic, the cells have numerous discoid chloroplasts; however, a colorless form with 4-6 flagella was also recorded, though this may relate to Hegneria. Genus included by Hollande (1952) but omitted by Huber-Pestalozzi (1955); included by Leedale (1967) and Bourrelly (1970). Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera,
organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA)
and intended to be published in CD format.
These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above.
The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.
Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
