Description: Cells united in ribbon-shaped chains by marginal ridges. In girdle view frustules usually narrow, rectangular; constricted close to the apices with low polar elevation. Frustule isovalvate; valves asymmetrical about apical axis, lunate. Valve face with areolae, areolae poroid with rotae, partially occuled by net-works; areolae irregularly lined up along apical axis; central area, sometimes present, indefinite in shape; axial area absent. An ocellulus present at each pole, two ocelluli of each valve in a slightly diagonal and clockwise position. Marginal ridges separate valve face from mantle. Mantle shallow, with a row of areolae. Pili and tubular processes absent. Although similar in valvar outline to Campylosira cymbelliformis (A. Schmidt) Grunow ex Van Heurck, Pseudoleyanella differs from the former genus in the absence of tubular processes and interlocking spines, the positioning of the ocelluli, and the isovalvate frustule. Found in the marine littoral waters of Mikawa Bay, Aichi Prefecture, Japan.

Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
