Description: Filamentous-thallose; thallus more or less spherical, gelatinous, firm, yellow-brown, macroscopic (to 1 mm diam.), with continual smooth surface, embedded in mucilage with irregularly arranged (in the peripheral parts more or less radial) coiled filaments. Trichomes irregularly waved, uniseriate, constricted at crosswalls, of the same width along the whole length, not attenuated, with wide rounded terminal cells, sometimes true branched (T-type ?). Sheaths around trichomes visible at the periphery of a colony, wide, homogeneous or finely lamellated, yellowish-brown, in the middle of colony diffluent, colorless, homogeneous. Cells barrel-shaped, more or less isodiametric or slightly longer than wide, blue-green. Heterocytes common, solitary, intercalary or terminal, spherical or slightly elongated. Akinetes not known. Cells divide evidently crosswise to the trichome, with the exception of branching. Reproduction not described (hormogonia ?). Described from wet limestone rocks (attached to the substrate) in Croatia and not revised again. The data from Czechoslovakia are uncertain.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
