Description: Microscopic, spherical to oval colonies of 2-4 cells (sometimes unicellular) embedded in stratified mucilaginous envelope. Cells spherical with smooth cell walls. Cells uninucleate?; chloroplast colorless with single pyrenoid. Nothing known regarding reproduction or presence of flagellated stages. Myurococcus reported from a moist cave wall in Czechoslovakia. This is a problematic genus that requires complete reinvestigation. The presence of a pyrenoid is questionable in light of the colorless nature of the cells. Nomenclatural details from Index Nomimun Genericorum; other authors attribute generic description to Hansgirg (1890).
