Original publication and holotype designation: Komárek, J. (1983). Contributions to the Chlorococcal algae of Cuba. Nova Hedwigia 37: 65-180, 38 pls.

Description: Cells solitary or in 2-4-more-celled colonies, where they are situated ± parallel in enlarged and later gelatinized mother-cell walls. Cells rhomboidal, from side ± flattened, slightly thickened on the poles, with one parietal chloroplast and one pyrenoid. Reproduction by 2-4 autospores which liberate from the mother-cell wall by its rupture and gelatinization. Type-species: R. complanata spec. nova. Two species described. The reproduction process and cell structure are similar as in Oocystis, but the cells are rhomboidal in outline and flattened from sides.
