Description: Solitary cells embedded in mucilaginous envelope with anterior (upper) half of cell covered by conical floatation structure. Covering initially colorless, but becoming brown with impregnation of iron. Cells 9-13 &m long, uninucleate with two, apical contractile vacuoles in upper end. Chloroplast single and cup shaped with stigma in apical portion and with single pyrenoid basal or subbasal. Asexual reproduction by naked zoospores with two equal and apical flagella; protoplast dividing into 2-4 swarmers. Zoospores elongate and oval, narrowing at apical end; internal structure similar to vegetative cells. Kremastochloris neustonic, forming a thin green film in freshwater pond formed by Moldau River; reported only from Czechoslovakia. Genus poorly known and requires reinvestigation.
