Lochmium Printz, 1916

Holotype species: Lochmium piluliferum Printz

Description: Plants similar in vegetative structure to Microthamnion but differing in having broader cells and club-shaped or ovoid, thick-walled, terminal akinetes. Asexual reproduction by zoosporangia that develop from any cell but zoospores not observed. Other forms of reproduction unknown. Lochmium reported from Siberia where it was probably collected from brackish-water. This little-known genus probably congeneric with the closely related Microthamnion.
