Description: According to Jordan et al. (2005), the genus Calciarcus has possible affinities with the Papposphaeraceae, a family with possible affinities with the Syracosphaerales. Heimdal (1997: 754) records this genus as a member of the Order Coccosphaerales but records the family as incertae sedis.
