Original publication and holotype designation: Kofoid, C.A. (1914). Phytomorula regularis, a symmetrical protophyte related to Coelastrum. University of California Publications in Botany 6: 35-40.
Taxonomic status: uncertain, requiring further investigation.
Type species considered by a number of authors (e.g. Copeland 1937; Margalef 1946) to represent the pollen of flowering plants belonging to the Mimosoideae. ING included the genus name in the Mimosaceae. - (25 May 2018) - M.D. Guiry
