Description: Filaments with multiple trichomes per sheath. Sheath colorless, unlamellated. Trichomes slightly constricted at the crosswalls, nontapering, with phormidiacean cell division. Cells with radial or fasciculated thylakoid arrangement. End cells rounded to conically rounded, noncalyptrate, typically longer than wide. Genome containing at least one ribosomal operon in which the 16S23S ITS has genes for both tRNAIle and tRNAAla.
