Currently accepted name for the type species: Metamastophora flabellata (Sonder) Setchell
Taxonomic status: currently regarded as a synonym of Metamastophora.
Type: L. brentii J.E. Gray. Type described as an animal, but in fact a consortium of a bryozoan and a coralline alga; lectotypification with the alga by Hastings (1960: 245); thus treated as a later homonym of Lichenella (Index Nominum Genericorum). - (17 Apr 2009) - Wendy Guiry
