Description: Cells in amorphous, structureless, mucilaginous colonies, or solitary, sometimes with ray-shaped mucilaginous envelopes. Cells ellipsoid to broadly oval, often slightly asymmetrical, with polar thickenings of the cell wall. Chloroplast single, parietal, cup-shaped or trough-like, with pyrenoid. Reproduction by (2-)4 autospores, adult cells not enclosed within expanded mother cell wall.
