Yoshizakia S.-M.Lin, Huisman & C.Payri, 2013

Holotype species: Yoshizakia indopacifica Showe M.Lin, Huisman & Payri

Original publication and holotype designation: Lin, S.-M., Huisman, J.M. & Payri, C. (2013). Characterization of Liagora ceranoides (Liagoraceae, Rhodophyta) on the basis of rbcL sequence analyses and carposporophyte development, including Yoshizakia indopacifica gen. et sp. nov. from the Indo-Pacific region. Phycologia 52(2): 161-170.

Description: Thallus (gametophyte) consisting of 1–few main axes. Cells of assimilatory filaments subspherical to pyriform, borne on colourless medullary filaments. Gametophytes dioecious. Carpogonial branches 4- or 5-celled; cells of the carpogonial branch and supporting cells remaining distinct after fertilisation, and no fusion cell formed; involucral filaments initiated from the cells surrounding the carpogonial branch, loosely surrounding the unfused carpogonial branches. Mature gonimoblasts slightly diffuse but not mingling with involucral filaments; fully developed involucral filaments morphologically similar to assimilatory filaments. Carposporangia pyriform, uninucleate, differentiating sequentially in terminal chains. Spermatangial parent cells cut off from apical and subapical cells; mature spermatangia formed on fertile axial cells sequentially in clusters or in branched chains. Tetrasporophyte unknown.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
